Everything You Need To Know About Salt Lamps

Salt Lamps in Different Shapes and Sizes

There can be quite a difference between one salt lamp and another. Some are left with a rough, natural finish, while others are shaped into hearts, spheres, pyramids and other designs. There are also smaller plug-in night lights, candle holders and USB lamps.

It is not always easy to judge the size from a photograph. You should have a look at the measurements and weight before choosing. The approximate dimensions and weight should be shown on the individual product page.

Where to Put a Salt Lamp

A salt lamp is best kept somewhere dry and out of the way. A bedside table, chest of drawers or the corner of a desk will usually be fine, as long as it is not too close to a sink.

Have a look at where the cable will sit before deciding on a spot. You do not want it pulled tight by hanging where it can be caught or trailing across the floor. The bigger lamps are heavier than they look. Try to put them on something solid rather than a narrow shelf or a table that feels a bit flimsy.

Natural Colour and Variation

No two pieces of natural rock salt look exactly alike. One lamp may be deeper orange, while another may have lighter pink, cream or pale markings.

Lines, small uneven areas and changes in texture can also appear across the surface. These are part of the natural material rather than a reason to expect every lamp to match the product photograph exactly.

Looking After Your Lamp

A dry cloth is normally enough to remove dust from the salt. Avoid using water or cleaning sprays, especially near the cable, plug and bulb holder.

When the lamp is not being used for a while, keep it somewhere dry. The care instructions may differ slightly between products, so read the information supplied with your lamp as well.

Bulbs, Cables and Power

The power setup is not the same for every lamp. Some come with a mains lead, some plug straight into the wall and smaller styles may run from a USB connection.
