What Are Animal Salt Licks?

Animal salt licks are solid blocks of salt made for livestock and other suitable animals.

They are commonly used around farms, stables and grazing areas. Instead of loose salt being poured into a container, the solid block can be left in a suitable holder or hung where the animal can reach it.

Our salt licks are made from natural rock salt and do not need any preparation before being put out.

Choosing the Right Size Salt Lick

The size you need will depend on how many animals are using it the salt lick and the size of the animal.

A smaller block may be enough for one animal or a small enclosure. If several animals are sharing the same area then a larger block may make more sense.

Check the weight before ordering as some salt licks can be heavier than they look.

Rain and damp weather can slowly wear the salt down.

A sheltered spot can help protect it from heavy rain while still keeping it within easy reach of the animals.

Where to Store Spare Salt Licks

If you have bought more than one block, then keep the spare ones somewhere dry until you need them.

A shed or storage area is fine as long as rain cannot get to them.

Try not to leave unused blocks sitting directly on a damp floor as the salt can start to wear away before it is even used.
